Star Wars Commander is a mobile real time strategy game. The developers clearly worked hard to fit the game into the greater mythology of the Star Wars universe. By setting the game squarely in the middle of the original trilogy's conflict, it allows players to live out their fantasy by involving some of the original films' most prominent heroes and villains, and choose whether to align themselves with the Empire or the Rebel Alliance.

But the story isn't the star of the show here. A bevy of story-based content is available, teaching the player the fundamentals of the game, but this largely serves as an appetizer to the gameplay content that serves as the heart of the experience. At its most basic, the game serves as a city builder, tasking you with creating resource gathering buildings you can use to expand your operating base. The faction you choose has an impact on the units available to you, but for the sake of gameplay balance the two sides largely play out the same.

Both cooperative and competitive multiplayer are available. The former allows you to team up in clans to aid one another in resource gathering, assault, and defense. The latter allows you to engage in asynchronous raids that help you bolster your resources and expand your empire
